On a late Sunday evening, the life of 53-year-old Kim Bessellieu, a Black female, was tragically cut short in what police have described as a homicide. The incident occurred on September 1, 2019, at the Amber Trail Apartments in Duluth, Georgia, where Bessellieu resided. Just before 11 p.m., a knock at her door prompted her to answer, leading to a fatal encounter.
Her roommate heard a gunshot and discovered Bessellieu bleeding near the doorway. Witnesses reported seeing two masked men, dressed entirely in black, fleeing the scene. In an act of courage, a 48-year-old man named Kevin Hudson attempted to intervene and confront the suspects in the parking lot. During the confrontation, Hudson sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Gwinnett County Police Department launched a homicide investigation, bringing in K-9 units to track the suspects. Despite their efforts, the two men have not been apprehended, and no arrests have been made in the case. Investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting and have not indicated whether anything was taken from the apartment, though initial reports suggested it was not a robbery.
