In the late summer of 2019, the community of Port Wentworth, Georgia, was shaken by the tragic death of 49-year-old Maria Book. A concerned family member, fearing for her safety, requested that police perform a wellness check on September 13th. It was on this day that officers from the Port Wentworth Police Department made the grim discovery of her body. The investigation that followed pointed to a devastating act of domestic violence, culminating in a murder-suicide.
