In the late summer evening of August 31, 2018, a quiet street in Port Wentworth, Georgia, became the scene of a tragic and violent event that claimed the life of 28-year-old Monique Williams. The events unfolded around 7:00 p.m. when the Savannah-Chatham Metro Dispatch received a harrowing 911 call reporting that a young girl and another person had been shot at a residence on South Coastal Highway.
Upon their swift arrival, officers from the Port Wentworth Police Department discovered a juvenile female on the front porch with multiple gunshot wounds. As emergency medical services tended to the injured girl, the officers proceeded to clear the house. Inside, they made a grim discovery: the bodies of 29-year-old Timothy Maurice Williams and 32-year-old Rocedric Eugene Thompson. The investigation would later reveal that Thompson's wound appeared to be self-inflicted. The search of the property then led to the discovery of Monique Williams, who was found deceased inside a vehicle in the driveway.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to lead the inquiry into the devastating incident. Their preliminary findings painted a clear and tragic picture of a murder-suicide. Investigators determined that Rocedric Thompson shot and killed Monique Williams in her vehicle. He then entered the residence, where he fatally shot Timothy Williams and seriously wounded the juvenile female. After his violent rampage, Thompson turned the gun on himself, ending his own life at the back of the house. The GBI confirmed that autopsies for all three deceased individuals would be conducted at the state crime lab in Savannah. In the wake of the tragedy, law enforcement assured the public that there was no ongoing threat to the community related to this incident.
