On a tragic afternoon in Ellenwood, Georgia, 68-year-old Jesse Turner III, an African American male, was fatally shot on October 7, 2019, while simply pumping gas at a BP station on Panthersville Road. A retired Ford Motor Company employee and a local lawn care business owner, Turner was a beloved father and grandfather to six. His unexpected and violent death sent shockwaves through his family and the community, leaving them in a state of grief and disbelief.
The investigation into the senseless act of violence quickly identified three suspects: Antonio Crowley, 21, Charlie Geddis, 22, and Tyler Anderson, 23. According to police reports, the trio arrived at the gas station in a stolen red Nissan Altima. After the shooting, they fled the scene, later setting the stolen vehicle on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence. They were then seen escaping in a red or burgundy Chevrolet Tahoe with distinctive aftermarket rims. While a motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, authorities issued murder warrants for all three men.
In the days following the incident, the pursuit of justice began to unfold. Antonio Crowley was the first to be apprehended after he turned himself in to the DeKalb County police and was subsequently charged with murder. The search for the remaining suspects continued, leading to the arrest of Charlie Geddis. The third and final suspect, Tyler Rhashad Anderson, was taken into custody in February 2020 at an apartment complex in Decatur. All three men were ultimately arrested and faced charges including murder for their alleged roles in the death of Jesse Turner III.
