In the early morning hours of December 7, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the atmosphere at the Private Eye Club in Augusta, Georgia, leaving a scene of chaos and tragedy. When the violence subsided, 28-year-old Charles Edward Lawson III, a male, had been shot at least once. He was rushed to a local hospital for medical attention but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Another man, 23-year-old Ja Brie Savonjay Dominguez, was also shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. The bodies of both victims were subsequently taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's lab for autopsies to be performed.
As the investigation into the double homicide began, law enforcement officers worked quickly to identify those responsible. Their efforts led them to a 19-year-old suspect named Antoine Redfield. He was stopped by the Georgia State Patrol and the Richmond County Sheriff's Office while he was leaving the area and was taken in for questioning. Following the interview, Redfield was arrested and faced a series of serious charges.
The charges brought against Antoine Redfield included two counts of murder for the deaths of Charles Edward Lawson III and Ja Brie Savonjay Dominguez. In addition to the murder charges, he was also charged with aggravated assault and other gun-related offenses. The swift arrest of a suspect brought a small measure of resolution to the initial phase of a case that had tragically cut short the lives of two young men.
