In the early morning hours of December 15, 2019, a vibrant life was tragically cut short on the charming coastal community of Saint Simons Island, Georgia. Wolf Valmond, a 37-year-old male, was fatally shot following a dispute at a local establishment. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer trainee, Valmond was out with fellow classmates when an argument erupted, reportedly over a misplaced cellphone. The disagreement escalated and moved outside the bar.
The situation took a deadly turn when another man involved in the altercation, identified as Calvin Jenkins, retrieved a firearm from his vehicle. Jenkins then fired at Valmond, striking him twice. Despite being wounded, Valmond attempted to flee the scene but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The incident cut short a promising career in law enforcement for Valmond, who had only recently joined the customs agency and was in training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia. Before his federal service, he had served with the Norfolk Sheriff's Office and the Norfolk Police Department in Virginia.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement officials were quick to act. Calvin Jenkins, then 27 years old, was arrested and subsequently charged with murder. Another individual, 25-year-old Naasir Kurmue, was also taken into custody and faced a charge of simple battery for his alleged involvement in the physical altercation that preceded the shooting. The legal process moved forward, and Calvin Jenkins was later convicted for the murder of Wolf Valmond and sentenced to life in prison.
