In a quiet subdivision in Dallas, Georgia, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of a young man. Amauri Ali Beavers, a 21-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on February 11, 2020, at a residence on Wesleyan Way in the Ivey Meadows subdivision. The incident, which unfolded around 5:45 p.m., also left two others injured.
Responding to a 911 call about a domestic dispute involving shots fired, Paulding County Sheriff's deputies arrived to a chaotic scene. They discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Amauri Ali Beavers, his mother, 42-year-old Takiyah Weems, and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Ebony Janel Copeland, were all victims of the shooting. Emergency aid was rendered at the scene, and all three were transported to a local hospital. Tragically, Amauri succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. His mother and girlfriend were treated for their injuries and later released.
The suspected shooter, who was detained at the scene, was identified as 77-year-old Earl Curtis Weems. Investigators determined that Earl Weems was the husband of Takiyah Weems and the stepson of Amauri Beavers. The initial investigation pointed to the shooting stemming from a domestic altercation.
Earl Weems was arrested and taken into custody. He was initially charged with aggravated assault, and authorities indicated that additional charges were expected pending further investigation. He was booked into the Paulding County Jail, where he was held without bond. The Paulding County Sheriff's Office continued to investigate the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation.
