Darcy Jones Jr., a 23-year-old male, was fatally shot on November 14, 2020, in what was his first and only visit to a South Fulton nightclub. That evening, Jones was at the bar of The Bodega Fish, Chicken, and Shrimp restaurant on Old National Highway, where he was seen talking to several people, including the girlfriend of Tianyve Stitts, an employee at the establishment.
At some point after 1 a.m., Stitts followed Jones to the restroom and shot him.
Jones collapsed and Stitts fled out the back of the restaurant. The gun used in the shooting had been given to Stitts by a security guard, Darrence Morgan, who had taken it from a patron.
Following the incident, the City of South Fulton shut down The Bodega for numerous code violations, including illegal drug sales, serving alcohol without a license, and alleged human trafficking.
Tianyve Stitts was later arrested and, in May 2023, was found guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and giving false information to a law enforcement officer. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole, plus an additional 10 years. At the time of the murder, Stitts was on probation for possession and dealing of cocaine in Indiana. Darrence Morgan pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in May 2022 and testified for the prosecution during Stitts' trial.
