In the late evening of November 25, 2020, the life of Kedrick Deon Williams, a 35-year-old African American male from Americus, Georgia, was tragically cut short. Born on December 19, 1984, Kedrick was a father of three and a man remembered fondly by his family and friends. He had grown up in Americus, receiving his education within the Sumter County public school system.
On that Wednesday night, at approximately 8:36 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the 100 block of Lester Street in Americus following reports of a man down. Upon their arrival, they discovered Kedrick Williams suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of the emergency personnel, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Americus Police Department, in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation immediately launched a homicide investigation into Williams' death. Their inquiries quickly led them to identify a suspect: 37-year-old Eric Romone Lewis, also of Americus. Law enforcement authorities issued a public alert, describing Lewis as armed and dangerous and seeking assistance in locating him.
The search for Lewis concluded less than a week later. On December 1, 2020, he was apprehended by the Henry County Police Department during a traffic stop. Lewis was taken into custody without incident and was subsequently charged with the murder of Kedrick Williams. Following his arrest, he was initially held in the Henry County Jail before being transferred to Sumter County to face the charges brought against him. The case against Eric Romone Lewis then began to proceed through the judicial system, bringing a measure of resolution to a community mourning the loss of Kedrick Williams.
