In the early morning hours of February 11, 2021, a gathering at The Eva Apartments in Sandy Springs, a city in the Atlanta metropolitan area, turned deadly. Twenty-year-old Ariel Collazo, a male from the nearby city of Norcross, was present at the apartment complex when gunfire erupted around 2 a.m. Collazo was tragically shot and killed during the incident.
Another individual, 19-year-old Jerry Salazar, also lost his life in the shooting, while a third person sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the double homicide led by the Sandy Springs Police Department quickly identified and apprehended multiple suspects. On February 15, 2021, with the assistance of the Gordon County Sheriff's Office, Georgia State Patrol, and Calhoun Police Department, authorities arrested 25-year-old Jesus Alvarez de la Rosa at a home in Calhoun, Georgia. He was charged with a range of offenses, including home invasion, murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Further investigation led to the arrests of two more suspects on February 22, 2021. Ge Vang, 40, and Mushfiq Ali Nafi, 19, were taken into custody and faced multiple serious charges. These charges included multiple counts of felony murder, aggravated assault with intent to murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and conspiracy to purchase marijuana with the intent to distribute. The ongoing investigation continues as authorities work to bring a resolution to the case and provide justice for the families of Ariel Collazo and Jerry Salazar.
