In a brutal and violent episode that shattered the quiet of a Decatur neighborhood, 55-year-old Craig Haynes, a male resident, was killed in his home on Bobolink Drive on February 20, 2021. The investigation into his death revealed a particularly vicious assault. Haynes was reportedly beaten with a variety of household objects, including a vodka bottle and metal holders, before being fatally shot.
The motive behind this savage attack remains unclear, leaving a community to grapple with the senselessness of the violence.
The subsequent investigation, a collaborative effort involving the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit, the U.S. Marshals Service, and both the DeKalb County and Brookhaven Police Departments, led to the apprehension of five men. The arrests were carried out in the weeks following the murder across several locations, including Decatur, Stonecrest, Lithonia, and Tucker.
The individuals taken into custody and facing charges of murder and aggravated assault are Ashley Dejuan Fraley, 28; Devin Kinyatta Fraley, 29; Brandon Lewis Cox, 35; and John Glenn Coleman, 56, all residents of Decatur. A fifth suspect, 20-year-old Kevin Mark Scott of Opelika, Alabama, was also arrested in connection with the crime. All five men were arrested without incident and are being held in the DeKalb County Jail without bond.
