On a Wednesday evening in Atlanta, Georgia, the life of Cornelius Morgan, a 45-year-old African American man, was abruptly ended. On February 17, 2021, Morgan was at a store located on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW near Bolton Road when he was shot. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but the medical efforts were in vain, and he was pronounced dead.
The motive for the shooting has not been publicly disclosed by authorities.
The Atlanta Police Department began an investigation that led them to identify suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. More than a month after the incident, on March 29, 2021, 32-year-old Johnathan Coleman was apprehended by U.S. Marshals. Coleman was subsequently charged with murder and booked into the Fulton County Jail. It was also discovered that he had outstanding warrants in Mobile County, Alabama.
The investigation did not conclude with Coleman's arrest. Authorities identified a second individual, Andre Thomas, as another suspect in Morgan's death. A warrant for murder was also issued for Thomas. It is believed that Thomas may be in Alabama, and a reward has been offered for information that leads to his capture. The search for Thomas continues as the case remains an active investigation, leaving a community seeking full closure and justice for the death of Cornelius Morgan.
