In March of 2021, the life of a young Tifton, Georgia mother, Diana 'Laura' Aguirre, was tragically cut short at the age of 24. Born in Guerrero, Mexico, she had built a life in Tifton for twenty-two years, graduating from Tift County High School in 2014. A dedicated mother to her three young children, a son and two daughters, she was known as a hardworking and passionate nail technician who deeply valued her clients. Her friends and family remember her as a humble and giving person with a strong will and a leadership spirit, always ready to support those in need.
Concerns for Diana's welfare arose when she was reported missing after failing to show up for work. She was last seen at her residence on the evening of March 4, 2021. The search for her came to a devastating end on March 6, 2021, when her body was discovered in a shallow grave in the backyard of her home on Sussex Drive. The investigation into her death was led by the Tifton Police Department.
The investigation swiftly led to a suspect, Matthew Howard, who was identified as Diana's husband. He was arrested and subsequently charged in connection with her death. The evidence indicated that Diana had been shot on March 4, 2021, at their home, and that an attempt was made to conceal her body in the yard.
In April 2023, Matthew Howard pleaded guilty to felony murder, aggravated assault, and concealing the death of another. Following his plea, a judge sentenced him to life in prison for the death of his wife, Diana Laura Aguirre.
