In the spring of 2021, the life of 19-year-old Stephon D. Middleton was tragically cut short in Atlanta, Georgia. On the afternoon of April 15th, police responded to a call on Custer Avenue SE, where they discovered Middleton's unresponsive body, bearing a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Investigators believe that Middleton was walking with another man before the two entered a car together.
Soon after, shots were fired, and Middleton's body was left in the street. Three days after the discovery of the young man's body, authorities identified 19-year-old Derrion Johnson as a suspect in the homicide. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest on a charge of felony murder.
The search for Johnson extended beyond Georgia, and on April 20, 2021, he was apprehended in Toledo, Ohio, by U.S. Marshals in collaboration with the Atlanta Police Department. Following his arrest, Johnson awaited extradition back to Atlanta to face the murder charge.
