In the early morning hours of a Friday in June 2021, a grim discovery began to unfold in northwest Atlanta. Police were initially called to an Exxon gas station where they found 19-year-old Diari Durham suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. A trail of blood from the gas station led officers to a nearby apartment on West Lake Avenue, where the full scope of the tragedy became apparent.
Inside the apartment, officers found the body of
23-year-old Diamond O'Neal. She had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. A baby was also discovered in the apartment, physically unharmed, and was subsequently taken to a hospital to be checked over before being placed in the care of the state. The connection between O'Neal and Durham was described by police as being associates.
The investigation into the double shooting quickly progressed. Within days, authorities identified 28-year-old Vorquis Williams as a suspect and an associate of the victims. An arrest warrant was issued, and a manhunt was initiated. The search for Williams crossed state lines, and he was eventually located and taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Following his capture, Williams was extradited to Atlanta to face charges for his alleged role in the violent incident. He was charged with one count of murder for the death of Diamond O'Neal and two counts of aggravated assault. He was then held in the Fulton County Jail.
