In March of 2010, the body of 44-year-old Linda Symantha Myrick was discovered in a vacant lot in west Atlanta. A mother of three adult children, Myrick was found in a gruesome state, her body dismembered, missing both her head and hands. Investigators were able to identify her remains through medical records detailing a distinctive surgical plate and screws in her left leg.
At the time of the discovery, there were no immediate signs of other injuries or sexual assault, though a full autopsy was pending.
Police believe Myrick, who resided in DeKalb County, was killed sometime between the late night of Saturday, March 20th, and the early morning of Sunday, March 21st, 2010. She was known to frequent the area of Moreland Avenue and Memorial Drive in DeKalb County. In the initial stages of the investigation, law enforcement sought to question some of her known associates, but no specific suspects were immediately identified or eliminated.
Despite the passage of time, the brutal murder of Linda Myrick remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made in the case. Seven years after her death, her family continues to plead for information that could lead to the killer's capture. Her brother, Jeffery Myrick, has been a vocal advocate for justice, even authoring a book titled 'What Happened to My Sister?' to keep her story alive and hopefully find closure for his family. The Atlanta Police Department has assigned two veteran homicide detectives to the cold case, and a reward is available through Crime Stoppers for anyone with information.
