In the summer of 2021, a heated argument between brothers in Macon, Georgia, culminated in a tragic loss of life. On July 7, 19-year-old Marquez Card was shot during a dispute on Dewey Street. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office quickly identified a person of interest in the shooting: Marquez's own brother, 20-year-old James Card.
A search for James ensued, and on July 21, he was located and apprehended. He was found hiding in the closet of a home on Hillyer Avenue and was taken into custody without incident.
Following his arrest, James Card was charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with his brother's death. The investigation revealed that the shooting occurred after a verbal altercation. In November 2023, James Card pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was subsequently sentenced to 20 years in prison for the death of his brother.
