In a tragic turn of events on August 12, 2021, a 25-year-old man, Tajman Ashmore, lost his life in a fatal shooting at the Southlake Cove Apartments in Jonesboro, Georgia. The incident unfolded just before midnight, stemming from a domestic dispute involving his friend and her ex-boyfriend.
Ashmore was visiting his friend and playing with her son when the child's father, 42-year-old Justice Davis, appeared at the door. An argument ensued as the woman attempted to prevent Davis from entering the residence. The confrontation escalated when Davis produced a firearm. Ashmore intervened in an attempt to de-escalate the situation and protect his friend and her child. This led to a physical altercation between the two men, during which Davis fatally shot Ashmore in front of the young boy.
When Clayton County police arrived at the apartment complex on Southlake Court shortly after 11:40 p.m., they found Ashmore deceased at the scene. The suspect, Justice Davis, had already fled. An immediate investigation was launched, and Davis was quickly identified as the primary suspect in the homicide.
After weeks on the run, Davis was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in South Carolina. He was subsequently extradited back to Georgia and booked into the Clayton County Jail. Davis faces a string of serious charges, including malice murder, home invasion, aggravated assault, cruelty to children, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. He is currently being held without bond.
