In the late afternoon of November 4, 2021, Henry County Police Officer Paramhans Dineshchandra Desai, a 38-year-old male of Indian descent, was dispatched to a domestic violence call in McDonough, Georgia. It was a call that would tragically be his last. While attempting to make an arrest at a residence near the intersection of Keys Ferry Road and Floresta Drive, Officer Desai was shot. The gunman fled the scene, leaving the officer critically wounded.
Rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, Officer Desai fought for his life for four days. His family remained by his side as he lay in critical condition. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries on the evening of November 8, 2021. Even in death, his commitment to serving others continued, as his organs were donated, saving eleven lives. A seventeen-year veteran of law enforcement, he had previously served with the Georgia Department of Corrections and the DeKalb County Police Department before joining the Henry County Police Department. He was a married father of two young sons.
Immediately following the shooting, a massive manhunt was launched for the suspect, identified as Jordan Jackson. For five days, law enforcement agencies worked tirelessly to locate him. The search came to a dramatic and violent end when authorities tracked Jackson to an apartment in Riverdale. As a SWAT team closed in to apprehend him, Jackson barricaded himself inside and took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation did not conclude with Jackson's death. Authorities soon discovered that he had received help while on the run. Three women were subsequently arrested in connection with aiding his escape. Madison Troy and Katlyn Finley were charged with aiding and abetting. A third woman, Demetria S. Daniel, was later arrested and charged with hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal for her role in helping to hide Jackson from the police.
