Malik Deanthony Robinson, a 23-year-old African American male from Ellenwood, Georgia, was found deceased on November 9, 2021, after a county road crew discovered his body in a wooded area in Barnesville. The subsequent investigation, led by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, determined that Robinson had sustained at least one gunshot wound. It became apparent to investigators that the location where his body was found was not the place where the shooting had occurred.
Prior to the discovery, Robinson's family had reported him missing to the DeKalb County Police Department on November 7, 2021. The investigation into his disappearance and subsequent death led authorities to a residence on Boulderview Drive in DeKalb County. It is at this location that investigators believe Robinson was shot and killed on the same day he was reported missing.
As the investigation progressed, a suspect was identified in connection with the homicide. Derico Joseph McCoggle was later arrested and charged with malice murder for the death of Malik Robinson. He was subsequently booked into the DeKalb County Jail.
