In the fall of 2021, the life of 18-year-old Kelby '2sTwin' Martin was tragically cut short. On the afternoon of Saturday, November 13, 2021, the young Black man was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in a residential area of South Fulton, Georgia, near Buckhurst Trail and Cedar Hurst Trail. Emergency services were called to the scene around 4 p.m., but Martin was pronounced dead from his injuries. He had been a student at KIPP South Fulton Academy, where he attended with his twin brother.
Those who knew him remembered a bright smile that could warm any room.
The investigation into the shooting was handled by the South Fulton Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division and its Special Operations Division Gang Unit. Their work led to the arrest of two other teenagers, 18-year-olds Iban Allen and Kameron Peterson. Both were taken into custody and booked into the Fulton County Jail the day after the shooting. The two were allegedly responsible for Martin's death, though authorities indicated that the investigation was ongoing and that more offenders or warrants might be forthcoming.
Allen and Peterson faced a litany of serious charges in connection with Martin's death. These included involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and tampering with evidence. Highlighting a more sinister element to the crime, both were also charged with participation in a criminal street gang. Following their arrest, they were held without bond at the Fulton County jail as the legal process against them began to unfold.
