In the winter of 2021, a young African American man named Matthew Williams-Jacobs, 21, tragically lost his life in Vidalia, Georgia. On the night of Friday, December 17, the sound of gunshots pierced the air in the vicinity of Thompson and West Jenkins Streets. Officers from the Vidalia Police Department were dispatched to the scene around 9:11 p.m. and discovered Williams-Jacobs severely wounded by gunfire near a local establishment called Tammy's Do Drop In on Orange Street.
