In the early moments of a Wednesday morning in Atlanta's Vine City neighborhood, the life of 19-year-old Jaylin Madrie was tragically cut short. On January 12, 2022, Atlanta police were called to an apartment on Griffin Street shortly after 12:30 a.m. to investigate reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Madrie, a young man, deceased at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators at the scene noted that the evidence suggested Madrie had been specifically
targeted. The presence of numerous rounds fired led them to believe this was not a random act of violence. While the initial investigation began without immediate suspects, the Atlanta Police Department's Homicide Unit worked diligently to piece together the events of that fatal night.
Their efforts led to a significant breakthrough in early February when they identified 28-year-old David Clay as the primary suspect in Madrie's death. On February 17, 2022, members of the Atlanta Police Department's Fugitive Unit, in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, located and arrested Clay in Clayton County. He was subsequently booked into the Fulton County Jail.
Clay faced a series of serious charges in connection with the shooting, including murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The Atlanta Police Department expressed their gratitude for the swift work of their investigators in bringing a close to the case with the arrest of the suspected individual responsible for the death of Jaylin Madrie.
