In the Sweet Auburn neighborhood of Atlanta, a fatal encounter unfolded on the evening of March 15, 2022, that ended the life of 24-year-old Ricardo Fontaine. The incident occurred at an Exxon gas station located at 400 Edgewood Avenue, a place not far from the historic Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change. It was here that Fontaine was shot multiple times.
Emergency services responded to the scene, and Fontaine was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of
his injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he ultimately succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead. The shooting cast a somber shadow over the neighborhood, prompting an immediate investigation by the Atlanta Police Department.
Homicide detectives began their work the very next day, and their investigation quickly pointed toward a suspect. They identified 39-year-old Anthony Harrison as the individual believed to be responsible for the shooting. The Atlanta Police Department's fugitive unit was tasked with locating and apprehending him.
The search for Harrison concluded on April 20, 2022, when he was located in east Atlanta. He was taken into custody without incident, a little over a month after the fatal shooting. Following his arrest, Harrison was charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault. He is currently being held at the Fulton County Jail.
