On May 25, 2022, a 25-year-old African American woman named Deja McCrary was fatally shot in what police have described as an ambush at the Camelot Condominiums in South Fulton, a city just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. She was a mother, and her 4-year-old child was in the car with her at the time of the incident, sustaining minor injuries.

Investigators believe that McCrary was lured to the apartment complex by her ex-boyfriend, Colvin Lindsey. He allegedly orchestrated a plan with his current girlfriend, Teandra Brox, and another woman, Aquala Barnes. According to law enforcement, the pretense for McCrary's visit was a supposed confrontation with Brox. It is believed that Barnes sent text messages to McCrary to arrange the meeting place. However, when McCrary arrived and got out of her vehicle, she was shot and killed. While family and friends stated she was going to retrieve a laptop from her ex-boyfriend, the authorities have characterized the motive as a setup for a fight.

In the days that followed the shooting, authorities made several arrests in connection with McCrary's death. Aquala Barnes was the first to be taken into custody on May 26, 2022. Colvin Lindsey was arrested on May 30, and Teandra Brox was arrested on June 1. All three have been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Lindsey and Brox also face charges related to gang activity, and Lindsey has an additional charge for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The three suspects were booked into the Fulton County Jail.
