In the summer of 2022, a life was tragically cut short in a Suwanee, Georgia neighborhood. Abel David Castellanos Camacho, a 16-year-old male, was found shot in the chest on July 19, 2022, outside the apartment complex where he resided with his family. The family had moved to the United States from Venezuela six years prior, seeking a safer life away from the violence they had experienced in their home country.
The young man's death prompted an intensive investigation by Suwanee police. Their efforts led to the identification and arrest of three teenage suspects. The arrests brought a measure of solace to the victim's grieving mother, who had been struggling to cope with the loss of her firstborn child. The final two arrests auspiciously occurred on what would have been her son's 17th birthday.
The three individuals taken into custody were 17-year-old Jermaine Dandy-rimson, 17-year-old Joshua Ryan Petit, and 16-year-old Miguel Gabriel Flores. According to the victim's mother, her son did not know the individuals accused of his murder. The suspects are facing serious charges, including felony murder, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, in connection with the fatal shooting. The family has since relocated from the apartment complex, finding it too painful to continue living in the place where their son's life was taken.
