Lecorey Jerrell Blevins, 48, a male described here as Hispanic/Latino, died after a shooting in Decatur, Georgia, on September 18, 2022, in what authorities said began as an argument and ended in gunfire. Reports said the confrontation unfolded at a location on Columbia Drive, where Blevins, Charles Louis Gandy, and another man had been together before the situation turned violent.
Investigators later described surveillance footage showing the men talking inside before the third man left and a fight broke out between Blevins and Gandy. The dispute moved outside, and as the argument continued, shots were fired.
When police arrived, Blevins was found outside near the curb, badly wounded and bleeding from the head. He did not survive his injuries. The scene, as later described in local reporting, carried the abruptness of a quarrel that escalated in moments, from conversation to confrontation, then to a fatal shooting that left a man dead on a DeKalb County street.
In the days that followed, authorities moved quickly to identify and find the suspected shooter. Investigators said Gandy left the area in a white minivan immediately after the gunfire. On September 22, 2022, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office arrested Charles Louis Gandy, 30, at an apartment complex on Graves Road in Norcross. Officials said he was taken into custody without incident and booked into the DeKalb County Jail.
According to arrest information reported at the time, Gandy was accused of shooting Blevins several times with a handgun during the argument. He was charged with malice murder, and reports said he was being held without bond after his arrest. In the publicly available reporting located for this case, Gandy was the named suspect and the arrest announced in connection with Blevins’ death. I did not find reliable online reporting showing additional suspects, nor did I find later publicly reported details establishing a trial outcome or conviction in the sources reviewed.
