In the fall of 2022, a domestic dispute in a Conley, Georgia home escalated to a fatal conclusion, ending the life of 40-year-old Kelvin Atkinson. On the afternoon of October 13th, Clayton County police were called to a residence on Conley Road where they discovered Atkinson deceased from a gunshot wound. The investigation that followed pointed to his partner, 41-year-old Corey Crews, as the one responsible for the shooting.
The tragic events unfolded after Crews himself made a chilling phone call to their community leasing office, stating his intention to kill his partner. Moments later, as Atkinson attempted to leave their home during an argument, Crews shot and killed him. Authorities promptly arrested Crews in connection with the killing.
Initially, Corey Crews was charged with malice murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Following legal proceedings, a Clayton County jury found Crews guilty of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. For his role in the death of Kelvin Atkinson, a judge sentenced Crews to serve 25 years in prison.
