In the quiet town of Winder, Georgia, a domestic tragedy unfolded that cut short the life of twelve-year-old Angelique Ahearn, a white female. The horrific events of October 17, 2022, were not a sudden outburst but the culmination of a troubled family history that had seen Angelique caught in the middle of custody battles and past allegations of abuse.
Her mother had tragically died in a car accident years earlier, in 2016, leading to a period of instability for the young girl, who was placed in multiple foster homes in Tennessee. Despite her maternal grandmother's efforts to gain custody and a history of domestic violence accusations against Angelique's father, 59-year-old Leonard Ahearn, the court awarded him custody in May 2021. This decision moved Angelique to Barrow County, Georgia, setting the stage for the devastating night that would follow seventeen months later.
On that Monday evening, just six days after Angelique had celebrated her twelfth birthday, a heated argument broke out between Leonard Ahearn and his 34-year-old girlfriend, Rachel Hollifield, at their home on Celestial Way. The dispute escalated when Leonard retrieved a handgun. In a shocking act of violence, he first shot and killed his daughter, Angelique. He then turned the weapon on Hollifield, shooting and injuring her as she tried to flee. The violence concluded when Leonard Ahearn turned the gun on himself.
