Mayor Anton Joseph Cermak, the 44th Mayor of Chicago, died on March 6, 1933, in Miami, Florida, at the age of 59. His death was the result of a gunshot wound inflicted by Giuseppe Zangara, an anarchist who was attempting to assassinate President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt. The incident occurred on February 15, 1933, at Bayfront Park in Miami, where Cermak was present to greet Roosevelt.
