DaMarco Keshaun Harris, a 24-year-old resident of Miami, Florida, was fatally shot on May 9, 2024, in the Midtown Miami area. The incident occurred in a parking lot near the intersection of 35th Street and North Miami Avenue, specifically behind The Sylvester building across from the Midtown Miami mall. Harris, who was working as a ride-share driver at the time, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds by first responders.
He was immediately transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Family members identified him as the victim and expressed their confusion and grief over the motive behind the shooting, as they had no idea why someone would target him.
The investigation into Harris's murder is ongoing, with the Miami Police Department seeking any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the perpetrator. So far, two individuals have been arrested for accessory to the crime, but the shooter remains at large.
This tragic event revisits a painful history for the Harris family, as DaMarco's mother, Carmen Elena Harris, was also a victim of a violent crime. She was fatally stabbed in Miami Gardens on May 3, 2003, just after graduating from Florida State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. Her murder, which occurred when DaMarco was only three years old, remains unsolved.
The family, particularly Harris's aunt Nakai Kelly, who helped raise him after his mother's death, is now pleading for the community's assistance in locating his killer and finding closure for both tragedies. A fundraiser has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.
