Eric Slusser, a clerk at a liquor store in Marion, Florida, was tragically shot and killed during a robbery on December 12, 1979. The perpetrator, Sonny Boy Oats, entered the store with the intent to rob it and ended up shooting Slusser in the head. This incident was part of a series of violent crimes committed by Oats during that period. Just a few days later, on December 20, 1979, Oats committed another robbery at a different store, where he shot and killed another clerk, Jeanette Dyer.
