Robert Patrick McDermon Sr., a 35-year-old white male, tragically lost his life on April 11, 1981, in Baldwin, Florida. McDermon, a dedicated trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol, was off-duty and assisting in the search for an escaped prisoner from the Union Correctional Institution. On the fateful day, McDermon and his cousin returned to his cousin's home along U.S. Route 90 after their shift.
