Eric Byron Streeter, a 37-year-old corporal with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, tragically lost his life on March 13, 1984, following a shooting incident in Pensacola, Florida. Streeter was investigating suspicious activity related to a drug case when he noticed five individuals behaving suspiciously. As he followed them, the suspects realized they were being tailed and stopped their vehicle. Streeter blocked them in an alley at the 200 block of East Cross Street.
Before he could take any action, one of the suspects opened fire, hitting him three times. Despite being rushed to Baptist Hospital, Streeter succumbed to his injuries two days later.
The investigation into Streeter's death led to the arrest of five individuals who were accused of aiding the shooter. The primary suspect, a 22-year-old man who had escaped from Escambia Prison six months earlier, was apprehended in Tampa three weeks after the incident. He pleaded no contest to the charges and was sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole. Streeter's death was a significant loss to the community and the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, where he had served for eight years. He was survived by his wife and children, one of whom later became a Florida State Trooper.
