Brian Heywood Chappell, a 31-year-old white male police officer, tragically lost his life on August 22, 1988, in West Palm Beach, Florida. Officer Chappell was conducting a traffic stop on Malverne Road, near the intersection with South Dixie Highway, as part of a speed enforcement assignment. During the stop, the driver of the vehicle leaned out and fired a single shot, striking Officer Chappell in the heart.
