Detective Ricky Joe Childers, aged 46, tragically lost his life on May 19, 1998, in Tampa, Florida. He was a dedicated member of the Tampa Police Department, having served for 18 years. On the day of his death, Detective Childers, along with his colleague Detective Randy Bell, was involved in transporting a suspect, Hank Earl Carr, to the police station for questioning.
