On that fateful day, Shanna, her husband, and Elbert Merrick III, who was at the McGrath home to retrieve items, were all fatally shot by Jacob Langston. According to reports, after an argument with Merrick, Langston shot him in the head outside the home. Shanna, upon hearing the gunshots, attempted to call 911 but was also shot by Langston. Kevin McGrath was subsequently killed during a gunfight with Langston inside the house.
