Jean Cenat, a 22-year-old resident of Miami Gardens, Florida, was tragically found dead on August 29, 2016. His body was discovered in Vista Verde Park, located on Northwest 39th Avenue, with multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation revealed that Cenat had arranged to meet Shuneice Thomas, a 21-year-old woman, through social media. Unbeknownst to Cenat, Thomas had lured him to the park with the intention of having him robbed.
This meeting turned fatal when Cenat was shot multiple times.
The Miami Gardens Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the murder. They were able to locate Cenat's vehicle, which was being driven by 23-year-old Steven Daniels. When officers approached Daniels, he attempted to flee, leading them on a pursuit. During the chase, Daniels tried to ram his vehicle into the officers' car but was eventually apprehended after attempting to escape on foot. Daniels faced multiple charges, including resisting an officer without violence, fleeing and eluding a police officer, aggravated assault on a police officer, and an open warrant for petty theft.
Shuneice Thomas was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and armed robbery. She admitted to luring Cenat to the park with the intention of robbing him. Thomas was held without bond following her arrest. The investigation also identified a third suspect, 25-year-old Shelton Jamel Evans, who was initially at large. Evans was later apprehended and faced charges of armed robbery with a deadly weapon and second-degree murder.
The case against the suspects involved in Jean Cenat's murder proceeded through the legal system. Thomas and Daniels were both held in custody, with Thomas facing the more severe charges related to the murder and robbery. The apprehension of Evans marked the conclusion of the primary investigation, as all key suspects were in custody. The legal proceedings aimed to bring justice for the senseless killing of Jean Cenat, highlighting the dangers of social media interactions and the tragic consequences of criminal activities.
