Guadalupe Urquilla, a 33-year-old construction worker from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, tragically lost his life on December 19, 2016. The incident occurred outside the Shop-N-Save Mini Mart at 1014 NW Fifth Ave. Urquilla had just exchanged a $100 bill for smaller denominations when he was approached by a teenager, Zavion Seed Alahad, who attempted to rob him. According to witnesses, a struggle ensued between Urquilla and Alahad, during which Alahad pulled out a gun and fired at least three times.
Urquilla collapsed in the parking lot and was later pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center.
The investigation quickly led to the arrest of 17-year-old Zavion Seed Alahad. Witnesses provided crucial information, including a description of Alahad and his clothing. A detective found a gray hoodie and several bullets at Alahad's home, which matched the description given by witnesses. Despite Alahad's denial of involvement, the evidence was compelling enough for the state attorney to charge him as an adult with murder and attempted robbery. During his first court appearance, Alahad was ordered to remain in jail without bond.
The case against Alahad proceeded with significant attention to the details of the crime. Witnesses recounted seeing Alahad running from the scene with a gun in his hand. Further investigation revealed additional evidence, such as a steak knife found outside an apartment linked to Alahad. Alahad's lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Gabe Ermine, declined to comment on the case, leaving the focus on the tragic loss of Guadalupe Urquilla and the pursuit of justice for his family.
