On a late morning in June of 2015, the sound of gunfire shattered the ordinary rhythm of a Baltimore street. When police responded to the 600 block of Aisquith Street at approximately 11:08 a.m. on June 8th, they discovered a grim scene. Two men had been shot, one with a wound to his leg, and the other, 26-year-old Antoine Johnson, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including at least one to the chest.
Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. While the second man survived his injuries, Antoine Johnson, a Black male whose last known address was in the 500 block of Bouldin Street, succumbed to his wounds later that evening. His death marked another homicide in a year that was seeing a surge of violence in the city.
In the immediate aftermath, homicide detectives from the Baltimore City Police Department began their investigation, appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and capture of the person or persons responsible for Johnson's death. They urged anyone with knowledge of the shooting to come forward and contact them.
Despite the initial investigation and public pleas for assistance, the case of Antoine Johnson's murder has grown cold over the years. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with his killing, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The violent act that cut short a young man's life remains an unsolved crime, leaving a family without answers and a community bearing the scar of yet another life lost to gun violence.
