Jaqavies "Quay-Quay" Rivers, a 22-year-old resident of North Port, Florida, was tragically killed on September 26, 2017. His body was discovered at a home on the 2400 block of Roxbury Circle around 12:25 a.m. The North Port Police Department quickly determined that the killing was not a random act, but they initially withheld specific details about the manner of his death to protect the integrity of their investigation.
The investigation revealed that Rivers was involved in an argument
over drugs and money with Marquis "Choppa" Harris, a 26-year-old man. During the confrontation, Harris pistol-whipped Rivers twice on the head. On the second strike, the gun discharged, killing Rivers instantly. Harris was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of Jaqavies Rivers. The police described the incident as a violent altercation that escalated fatally due to the involvement of firearms and narcotics.
Following his arrest, Harris faced legal proceedings for his role in Rivers' death. In July 2018, Harris was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the killing.
