Eugene Pavey, aged 50, went missing on July 1, 1982, after departing from the Crandon Marina in Miami, Florida, with his 19-year-old wife, Melanie Pavey. The couple embarked on a trip aboard their 27-foot Cigarette speedboat, planning to travel to Abaco Island in the Bahamas. It is believed they may have made a stop at Port Everglades Marina in Fort Lauderdale but were never seen again. When they failed to pick up Melanie's sister at the Abaco airport on July 3, they were reported missing.
Despite searches by the U.S. Coast Guard and their families, neither Eugene, Melanie, nor their boat were ever found. The disappearance has remained unsolved for over 40 years. Eugene had minimal boating experience, leading authorities to speculate that an accident could have occurred during the trip. The couple's boat, described as navy blue with white stripes, also vanished without a trace.
Eugene and Melanie had met the year before and had only been married for about six weeks at the time of their disappearance. Their case continues to baffle investigators and remains an open mystery.
