On January 23, 2018, 16-year-old Brene Marshall, a Black female from Brooksville, FL, was tragically shot and killed inside her home in the Hill 'N Dale subdivision. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. and also claimed the life of her mother, Taneta Morrell, aged 40. Brene, a student at Hernando High School, was known for her love of animals and had recently asked friends to donate to the ASPCA for her upcoming 17th birthday instead of giving her gifts.
