Veta Latrece Muller, a 41-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on January 30, 2018, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was shot multiple times while on her front porch in the 1300 block of Grothe Street. The incident occurred in the early afternoon, and she was hit at least five times in the chest and abdomen. Despite being rushed to UF Health Jacksonville, Veta Muller succumbed to her injuries on the operating table.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to the
scene after their ShotSpotter system detected gunfire, followed by a 911 call reporting the shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Veta Muller critically injured. She was able to communicate with the police to some extent before undergoing surgery, but unfortunately, she did not survive.
The investigation into Veta Muller's death revealed that she was shot while outside her home. The police deployed a helicopter in an attempt to locate any vehicles involved in the incident, but no suspects were immediately identified. The shooter remained at large, and the authorities urged anyone with information to contact the Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers.
