On June 19, 2018, Melissa Vayda-Henry, aged 46, was found dead in her home in Daytona Beach, Florida, alongside 55-year-old Thomas Pulcrano. The police discovered their bodies during a well-being check requested by concerned acquaintances. Both individuals were found lying on a bed with gunshot wounds to their heads. Pulcrano was found holding a semi-automatic handgun, leading authorities to conclude that the incident was an apparent murder-suicide.

Vayda-Henry and Pulcrano had been struggling with significant health issues. Vayda-Henry had long battled depression and anxiety, and there were suspicions that she might have had cancer, although she never disclosed her diagnosis. Pulcrano, on the other hand, had been dealing with uncontrolled diabetes and had undergone multiple serious surgeries for various health problems, including colon and pancreatic issues.
The couple's landlords, who were also their friends, provided insights into their deteriorating health conditions. They mentioned that Vayda-Henry's health had been declining significantly, and Pulcrano had been facing extensive health challenges for many years. These health struggles, combined with their mental health issues, likely contributed to the tragic outcome.
No arrests were made, and there were no suspects other than Pulcrano, who was believed to have committed the murder-suicide. The police did not pursue further litigation or law cases related to their deaths, as the evidence pointed towards a clear case of murder-suicide.
