Alex Correa, a 20-year-old from Orlando, Florida, tragically lost his life on January 14, 2019, during a violent home invasion. Correa was at his residence on Port Simbor Avenue when a group of individuals forcibly entered his home, mistakenly believing it to be a marijuana grow house. The intruders, armed and intent on robbery, were met with resistance from Correa, who attempted to defend himself and others in the home with a knife.

The investigation into Correa's death led to the arrest of multiple suspects. Daquon Gathers Jr., 20, was one of the first to be apprehended and charged with first-degree murder. He, along with Michael Salgado Soto and Ashley Webb, who were arrested in South Florida, faced serious charges related to the home invasion and Correa's death. Another suspect, Taylor Massey, was arrested in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The suspects believed that Correa's home contained large amounts of cash and marijuana, which motivated their violent break-in.
Further developments in the case saw the arrest of a sixth individual, Markos Asmat, 30, who was charged with first-degree murder in August 2019. Asmat was identified as an associate of Correa's brother and was believed to have knowledge of the supposed valuables in the home. During the invasion, Correa's bravery was evident as he helped hide several children and fought off the attackers before being shot multiple times. His actions, though heroic, ultimately led to his untimely death.
