Xavier Breton, a 20-year-old resident of West Palm Beach, Florida, was tragically shot and killed on February 12, 2019. The incident occurred on the 3700 block of Paseo Andalusia, north of Southern Boulevard and east of Interstate 95. Breton was found with gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries about an hour later. retail jobs after graduating from Boynton Beach High School in 2016.
The investigation into Breton's death led to the arrest of two men, Kevin Davis and Vincente Ortiz, who were charged with first-degree murder by a grand jury indictment in January 2021. Davis, 32, was already in the county jail on unrelated charges from January 2020, while Ortiz, 31, was transferred from a federal prison to the Palm Beach County jail. Despite the arrests, authorities have released limited information about the case, and the indictments provided little additional insight into the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Breton's mother, Naomie, has been vocal about her son's death, sharing her grief and memories of Xavier with the media. She described him as the man of the house, always ensuring his family's well-being. In the hours before his death, they exchanged text messages expressing their love for each other, with her last message to him being, "Be safe." The community has also rallied around the Breton family, holding memorials and vigils to honor Xavier's memory and seek justice for his untimely death.
The state attorney's office has decided not to seek the death penalty for Davis and Ortiz. If convicted of first-degree murder, they face a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The case remains a poignant reminder of the violence that claimed the life of a young man with a promising future, and the ongoing quest for answers and justice continues to resonate with those who knew and loved Xavier Breton.
