Dylan A.J. McCurdy, a 26-year-old resident of Jacksonville, Florida, tragically lost his life on April 1, 2019. McCurdy was found deceased on the side of Featherwood Drive, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation immediately upon discovering his body. The investigation into McCurdy's death quickly identified John Emory Wilson as a suspect. Witnesses provided crucial information, including Wilson's nickname and details about the vehicle used to dump McCurdy's body. The day after McCurdy's body was found, detectives conducting a witness interview spotted the suspect vehicle passing by. A traffic stop was conducted, and Wilson, who was driving the vehicle, was arrested on unrelated charges. Despite attempts to clean the vehicle, forensic analysis revealed McCurdy's blood in several areas of the car, and the passenger-side window was missing. Further investigation confirmed that Wilson had shot McCurdy and disposed of the firearm by throwing it into Sherman’s Creek from the Wonderwood Expressway. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office dive team later recovered the gun, which had McCurdy's blood on the barrel.
Wilson was charged with first-degree murder and faced trial in 2021. The prosecution presented compelling evidence, including witness testimonies and forensic findings, which led to Wilson being found guilty by a jury. He was subsequently sentenced to life in Florida State Prison without the possibility of parole.
