The investigation into Cheeseborough's death revealed that the shooter was Jerome Cedric Whitesides, a 21-year-old who was dating Cheeseborough's ex-girlfriend, Jessica Nicole Rennard. Whitesides was arrested on New Year's Day and charged with second-degree murder, evidence tampering, possession of a firearm by a Florida delinquent, and marijuana possession. Rennard, aged 24, was also charged with evidence tampering.
