Antoine Devon Davis, a 33-year-old African American male, was found shot in the early hours of April 13, 2019, in the Parramore neighborhood of Orlando, Florida. Police discovered Davis lying face down in the driveway of a home on Randall Street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
The investigation revealed that the shooting was the result of a confrontation between Davis and Willie Carl Griffin
Jr., a 30-year-old man who was dating the mother of Davis' child. According to witnesses, the altercation began late on April 12, 2019, at a liquor store near the house where the shooting occurred. Davis attempted to enter the woman's car, but she refused, leading him to confront Griffin inside the store. Although the woman claimed Davis brandished a gun during the argument, security footage did not support this assertion.
Later, on Randall Street, witnesses reported seeing Davis hit the woman while she was in her car. Griffin then intervened, shooting Davis multiple times. Even after Davis fell to the ground, Griffin continued to fire, which investigators noted as evidence of premeditation. Griffin was arrested on April 17, 2019, and charged with first-degree murder. He remained in the Orange County Jail following his arrest.
The case against Griffin highlighted the complexities of domestic disputes and the tragic outcomes that can result from such conflicts. The legal proceedings focused on the sequence of events leading up to the shooting, with particular attention to the actions and intentions of both Davis and Griffin. The evidence, including witness testimonies and security footage, played a crucial role in the investigation and subsequent litigation.
